They discovered a secret passage leading outside, and when they reached the end, the ghost thanked him and vanished into thin air.

The young man was so relieved and happy that he started to laugh. But then he realized that he had just been tricked by the ghost. He said to himself, "I'm glad I helped that poor soul, but I hope I never have to deal with a ghost again!"
